GSL-SE Radio Pop

Looking through the forums but never saw much help on this. I replaced the stock radio in my 85 GS with the setup from the GSL-SE way back when the car was new. Now, the tape deck doesn't work (don't have tapes anyways) and the radio "pops" and "crackles" when turning it on or adjusting the volume. Any ideas how to fix it? Anyone know of shops who can fix this? I really want to leave the car stock and replacements are hard to find.

The pop/crackle is an easy one. The volume pot just needs to be cleaned or replaced.

As for the tapes, it depends on what the failure is. Probably just needs to be cleaned and a set of new belts installed.

Electronics store sell potentiometer cleaner in a bottle. The pain of course is accessing the pots. Having never disassembled a GSL-SE stereo I don't have any specifics.
