Talking Got Spark, got Fuel, might have compression, but don't have any start. help

Just purchased a '87 N/A for $400. Yay! However it doesn't run. The previous owner said it just wouldn't start for him. I figured it was just flooded so I proceeded to employ de- flooding procedures ie; Pulled EGI fuse, crank, replace fuse, crank, no go. Pulled plugs, pulled EGI fuse, crank, pft, pft, pft, sound and fuel misting out of the engine compartments, inject ATF into lead plug ports, replaced plugs, cranked, and still no go. The leading coil was bad so i replaced it, and installed new battery, and plugs. Repeated de-flood technique and cranked it over. It wanted to go but would die. At best I got it to rev to 2000 rpms keep in mind that's when i started it with the gas pedal floored, when i lifted it would die. I already gave up a '88 due to frustrations a few years back and regret it. So that's why i bought this one. Please help me not make the same mistake. What should I check next?

Just picked up a 87 n/a for $400. Yay. However it doesn't run. Previous owner said it ran but he just couldn't get it to start. I figured it was flooded. I proceeded to employ de-flood techniques ie; Pull EGI fuse, crank, replace fuse, crank, no go. Pull fuse, pull plugs, crank, hear pft, pft, pft and see fuel misting out of engine bay, re install plugs, and crank, still no go. Checked lead coil, it was bad so I replaced it. Replaced plugs and installed new battery. Repeated de-flood procedure and got it to catch, but died immediatley after. At best I got it to rev to 2500 rpms when I started it with the gas floored, but died after lifting and then floods. I searched and found similar problems, but no conclusions on any threads. What should I check next? Please help

Assuming the car is mechanically capable of operating, try a push start with another vehicle. It could just be seriously flooded, and a push start always works.

Well, tried to push start this morning, and nothing. I'm not suprised. You should see what the previous owners have done to this thing! Just wanted to see where I was at. I planed on tracking this car anyways. Time to rebuild, and I mean rebuild. From the ground up. Starting stripping her today. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

before you pull the motor you should get the thing started, for peace of mind. there is someone else asking the same question couple of threads up from yours and i told him the same thing. before cranking try unplugging the coolant temperature sensor, if that doesn't work try looping it.

ok I just got an 87 and it wasn't running turned out to be spark plugs. Now I know this isn't always the problem but who knows check to make sure the plugs are the right ones there should be leading and trailing. Also try unplugging the cold start assit plug underneath the csa bottle. Just a few things to look at before spending tons of dough.

if you havent pulled the motor yet, get in the back and pull the electrical plug to your fuel. Theres an electrical clip under the carpet in the hatch. pull that apart, then go turn it over with it unplugged till until its cleared out. i had to do it a few times before it actually started. plug it back in and try to start it. thats what i had to do and it worked. also make sure that your fuel pump is working efficiently.

Haven't yanked the engine yet just the interior. I''ll have to check the fuel pump for proper operation. Previous owner installed koyo radiator and e-fan so he looped temp sensor already I think. There are so many cut and spliced wires down there i'll have to check that also . Your right about piece of mind, but i bought it intending on being my money pit of a project and no deadlines. I have enough of those in my life. Also when it does start for that split second lots of white smoke and some sort of moisture coming out of the exhaust. Diagnosis??????????????? My rotary ignorance shines, but i'm trying to change.

Smell/taste the liquid coming out of the tailpipe. If it's coolant, then it's rebuild time. Check the fluid in the radiator too, make sure it;s a water/antifreeze mix. Pull the leading plugs and check them again. Are they wet with fuel or coolant?

Pulled the exhaust manifold. A good amount of coolant came pouring out. So that solves that mystery. Thanks for the advice.
