Got in my friends 1st gen and started it and this loud screach came out....

but when i start mine i dont hear it. what causes that? from what i read i think its the isolator. is that correct. it sounds horrible. thanks

Don't know what an isolator is.

Most common cause would be a slipping belt.

it amazes me how many people just ignore a screeching belt on all their cars.
not too hard to tighten up

Does it have power steering? Does the screech get louder when you turn the wheel?
The screeching noise has to be one of the most annoying noises there is and it's the easiest to fix.
