My first thought is a clogged cat. Second thought is that if you've recently done any work in the sparkplug area, check to make sure the leading and trailing plugs haven't been crossed up or disconnected. There are some other suggestions in the threads below....

Re read my earlier post. Crossing up the plug wires...which is somewhat easy to do, can produce your problem. And no, you wouldn't neccesary use the same plugs in leading and trailing. NGK plugs in stock heat ranges is recommended unless you're running higher boost or significant performance mods.

Then BUR9EQP in leading and trailing are probably called for. But regardless, plugs have nothing to do with your issue. Check your plug wire routing or check some of the other suggestions in those threads.

My guess would be that it is just running on the trailing coils.

This is what I do for a quick test.

Tap a strap for two plugs and bolt it to the car frame.

Run the engine with the removed front and rear leads for leading..... and then trailing. Observe spark.

I had the exact same problem. Adjusted the air mixture screws on the holley carb and that fixed it. Further fine tuning of the carb cooled it down even more.

Talk to us about your fuel injectors and fuel injector wiring. Any pics of your engine bay underneath the UIM? What gauges and sensor do you have in the car---- what do all of your parameters look like at idle? EGT, fuel pressure, vacuum, etc.

retarded ignition timing
overly rich idle fuel mixture
fouled or non functional leading plugs
clogged cat(if you have any)

those are the main causes of overheating exhaust

i thought you built cars, lean idle and high EGTs are not proper symptoms for one check box.
