Exclamation Ghetto Engine Hoist

Hey guy i found a free 12a on CL and i'll have a Uhaul tomorrow. I'm hoping this guy has an engine hoist to get it into the back of the truck, and I was wondering if either two people could lift a 12a out of the truck or if there is a make shift way to get it out of the truck.

Let me know what you guys think. Oh yea and i'm not going to buy a hoist tomorrow so that is out of the question.

Yes, two people can lift a 12A. Once person who is reasonably fit can lift the block alone but to move the engine with the manifolds in place, two people are required. It helps a lot to remove the accessories.

bare block can be just barely lifted alone...i think its like 300 pounds give or take. the hardest part is finding something to grab onto

use a wooden plank and just drag the motor up the plank into the truck, it's not that hard.

You can easily lift the engine on the back of the truck, but if you need a hoist and don't feel its worth the money to buy one you can rent them from most tool places.

A good tip is to get a shitty old tire and use it as a base for the block in your truck. keeps it from rollin around and bending/breaking things. You can then drag the engine around on the tire all you want.

I use a burly tree limb along with a tow strap and cumalong. Keep the kids from under this one though.
