Gearbox oil change

Hello,

I recently bought a short shifter (not sure if i'm gonna keep it) and while changing the SS i noticed that the old oil looks....well, old.

How do I change the oil out and what type is best/fitting to use.

88' GTU N/A manual trans.

Thanks for your time.

Dave

Or look the procedure up in the Haynes/FSM.

Great write up Aaron. I have the Haynes manual but it doesn't hold a candle to your more detailed and weekend mechanic friendly frame of mind walk through. I appreciate your time to write it up and willingly share it with fellow 7 owners.

Thanks again!

I use a little simpler route with a few feet of 3/8" hose and a small funnel. Snake one end of the hose up into the engine bay (anywhere higher than the transmission), and stick the other end in the transmission. Stick the funnel in the end and pour the oil down into the transmission. It actually goes fairly quickly even though gear lube is very thick.

I used Rotaryrocket's method last time I did this, just a couple of weeks ago. Works great. Soak the bottles in some hot water beforehand to help the fluid flow better.

I used the Lucas gear lube for the first time and love it! Good luck.
