Gasoline coming out of exhaust
Gasoline coming out of exhaust
I have a 1984 gsl-se fuel injected. No mods, she turns on but only for a few seconds. I don't have the muffler connected and I noticed lots if gasoline leaking from the exhaust. I've checked the fuel injectors and none of them are stuck open. What else could it be ? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

it's a little harder to diagnose a rich condition if the car never gets to warm up.
does it otherwise "sound normal" during the few seconds that it runs?
does the tachometer work?
in one of your other threads, i suggested testing the fuel pressure regulator. i also remember you saying you changed the ignition components as well, have you done simple things like double- and triple-checking the plug and coil wire placements?

1. did you ever remove the distributor for any reason? check the timing, though if it was running before and you never moved it, i can't think of a reason why it would be off.
2. have you checked for vacuum leaks?
3. do you have access to a pressure gauge? you need to get an idea of how much pressure is being put to the rail.
it's probably pointless checking the plugs because as i said, you're not getting it up to operating temp. that said, the fact that it keeps firing is an encouraging sign. can you post any videos of it doing what you're describing?

injector wire grounded to the engine block perhaps, which will hold the injectors on at all times with the key to on.
you should never see liquid fuel coming from the exhaust unless you have a large problem with the fuel delivery system. or are we talking puffs of fuel vapor?

Ok so the car turned on and stood on for about 2 mins and lots of white smoke was coming out the exhaust .... I do have a pressure gauge. I will try checking it today I will also be checking for vacuum leaks. Is there a way to for leaks with the car off?? And I have no idea why the white smoke?? Any input??
white smoke is usually water/antifreeze. next time you turn it on, make sure your coolant reservoir is full and then check for bubbling (pressure) while it runs. you have likely lost coolant seals.
Ok the car finally stood on and the whit smoke stopped after a few minutes.. I notice the air tube that goes to the cat was broke will this affect engine performance??
rather common issue on an FB, some people retrofit FC coolers for the thicker oil cooler bungs to avoid cracking them. do NOT use an impact gun to tighten the banjos on the older coolers, even use care with a breaker bar.
well, as RotaryEvolution stated, it's a pretty common thing with the SE oil coolers. you can go with a Gen II oil cooler. however, i had one welded many, MANY years ago at a radiator shop. so depending on your particular situation, you have other options.
