Gas leak around turbo

Ok so I am a newbie so plz tell me if I am dumb but I recently took the RX7 down for maintenance cause I am having a fuel issue. Compression is good and has been checked. Both rotor housings show signs of perfect compression. I recently started bogging and dieing only on cold start up. But after I struggle to **** the gas pedal repeatedly too keep it going till it warms up it steadys out and runs normal. So I pulled the upper intake off and took out the injectors and had them tested and all came back good. And after I installed the new O-rings on the injectors and new filters, I smelt fuel and looked under the car and saw a puddle of gas, it looked like it was coming down the backside of the turbo leaking off of it. What could cause this? I have a new pulsation dampener for fuel already installed now and new fuel hoses ( they aren’t leaking) I’m just at a loss for words... can anyone help a girl out with this? Loosing my mind

I'd recommend retracing your steps. Remove the upper inlet manifold again, check for fuel puddles or discoloration in hoses and connectors. Try and jumper the fuel pump relay to prime fuel for a second or two, I'm sure you'll be able to find the leak from there.

I’ve did the jump and still couldn’t see any spraying or puddling on top of the motor, it’s like it’s coming from behind the lower intake manifold and running down the turbo, is there a line behind the intake manifold? Or is it possible for gas to leak from it?

welcome to the board.

what year/generation is it, and is your car stock or modified? if you don't already have one, you can get a copy of your FSM here: Foxed.ca

as far as the leak is concerned, just go over everything again. check every joint, every bolt, every seal, every gasket. check the primaries, in particular, they can leak and sort of flow over and around, then down the lower manifold.

on a sidenote, this sounds criminal. remember you have 5th amendment rights.

I’m aware of that amendment right 😂 but on a side not it started leaking when I had the primary’s and secondary’s out of the car 2 days later. I also have the battery out and the egi is pulled. Plus the pressure from the tank is zero cause before I even started anything I cracked the gas cap open loosely so there wasn’t any pressure I just don’t wanna start my car after I did all this work and it go up in flames I’m pulling the Lower manifold and replacing the gasket and turbo gasket as well this weekend and checking the rest just really confused

The fuel line path in the engine bay is:
- Hardlines from fuel tank on the firewall
- Rubber line to Hard line across the top of the motor
- Rubber line from Hard line to Primary Injector Rail (The injector rail that is attached to the runner pipes of the lower inlet manifold)
- Banjo Bolt Rubber Line that loops and connects the Primary rail to the secondary fuel rail at the front of the motor
- Secondary Fuel Rail (The injector rail that is attached to the Center housing)
- Fuel Pulsation Damper to rubber return line
- Return Hard line to rubber return line to Hard line on firewall

When there's a leak, it tends to pool where the lower inlet manifold connects to the engine and runs off onto the rear turbo. The usual main culprit is the O-ring seal on the Fuel Pulsation Damper. If you haven't removed the lower inlet manifold and it's not loose, I wouldn't dig further.

As you've already primed the system and can't see any leaks from the fuel rails at the top end, it's probably a dry or crushed primary injector o ring seal in the lower inlet manifold. This can be found by:
- Leave the upper inlet manifold off
- Disconnecting the spark plug leads from the spark plugs (to make sure there's no spark)
- Cranking the engine by key for a few seconds (one to two seconds should do it)
- Look for the wet area in the valley between the lower inlet manifold and engine

I cannot thank you guys enough. It was the fuel pulsation dampener the O-ring looked bad and had cracks going through it. So glad my engine did not catch fire. Even replaced the O-rings/grommets on the primary fuel rail. That job sucked. Plus found out I had a wire exposed on one of my injectors. So went ahead and wired in new injector plugs as well. Hopefully I can get this thing back up and running soon when I get the new fuel pump in since I bought the wrong fuel pump 😭
