Fusible link melting need help

Fusible link melting need help
on my 1983 rx-7 limited edition i replaced one of the links with a piece of 12g wire and every so offten i have to change it, im having some trouble trying to find out if i have a short in my wiring or if the link is susposed to get hot or not, if u have had troubles like this please help me out and thanks
