fuel level sending unit

Did some searching and can't find a definative answer for this. Will the fuel level sending unit from an 81 work in with the stock fuel gauge in a 79. And does it have the same screw pattern for a 79 gas tank?

ok I took my sending unit apart and actually fixed it. There was rust built up behind the coil and it was making contact with the housing and grounding it out. To answer my own question it looks as though you could unsoldier the coil from the contact and place it in the housing of an 81 sending unit. Looks like the rest of the unit is identical.

Now all I have to do is get my gas tank cleaned so it quits clogging fuel filters and I should be ready to fire it up.
