NV Fresh to Rotary!

hey, I just got my RX-7 last weekend. I think it is the FC model. Its a 1987 RX-7 Turbo II. Anyway, the speedometer does not work. I have also figured out that the Odometer does not work because of that. And the cruise control will not engage because it doesnt know how fast im going. and the alarm for the power steering goes of and throws the beep code for the speed sensor....hahaha. lot of problems for one cable! Anyway I pulled the cable out of the transmission only to find no sensor on the inside....I have a picture of what the transmission side looks like. Can someone tell me if this is how it should look? I am scared the cable snapped of in there. I just ordered a new cable too. Any help would be appriciated -DAN -Sorry pic is big, I dont know how to resize

ok, no one knows i'm guessing. well an update: I got my new Transmission cable. It works, however under 40mph it bunces about 2-4 mph. above like 50 it is solid. not sure why this is. I greased the cable. not sure if I put enough on. Does anyone know what may be the issue??

if you undo that nut(10mm) you can take out the Plastic speedo gear.
that gear is what the Speedo cable inserts into at the Transmission.
If the cable broke off there or the cable's insert point is worn, then the Speedo will not work.
another problem that can be encountered is the Cable, from being loose, can wear the Speedo gear at the cluster...from the cable moving in and out it will make the speedo bounce, make readings HI and then nothing, etc.
that is all related to the the Cable not being inserted correctly in BOTH the speedo in the car and the Speedo Gear at the transmission.
It is a very simple setup,so If it isn't one thing it will be the other.
The LAST thing that you could encounter is a Bad or frayed/sticky cable..(you can always spray lube the cable to relieve the sticky cable though or replace the frayed cable if so).
Hope that helps you.Cheers STYX!~
OH.bouncing..Make sure the Cable casing is actually Connected ON to the speedo at the back of the Speedo cluster.it Snaps on with a plastic clip.(big white one that you squeeze).

Thanks for the info. If I remove the 10mm nut will any fluid come out? Yes the cluster lock engaged. When the speedo is shaking I can hear like a rubbing sound in the cluster....hmmmm
