fmic vs. tmic.

which do you prefer? why? can top mounts handle as much boost as a front mount?

to me they are basically the same thing. people say top mount sux because when your not moving no air is cooling your intercooler. but isnt it the same thing with the fmic? if your not having that air being pushed up on it isnt it the same?

The top mount is adaquate using the stock turbo at stock boost levels. But due to its location, it is prone to heat soaking and just doesn't have enough cooling airflow to deal with higher temperatures. For upgraded turbos and higher boost levels, you need to go to a front mount or V mount.

on a v mount the air travels up from the bumper to the intercooler right? and also wouldnt a v mount be more prone the hot engine bay as opposed to a fmic?

Just an opinion...

I think the FMIC would be better. just based on the fact that heat rises and would be right on the TMIC... that and the front mount has a larger area to breath, so it will get more air(moving or not) and it'll cool down faster...

the question is... Is it really worth it to you to do the swap? Like Cake said, if your pushing more boost and running it harder FMIC would be the way to go, if not... stay with the top mount for now. I actually think they look pretty cool anyway!!

Picture the intercooler and radiator mounted in a horizontal V, with the mouth of the V pointing towards the front of the car. The intercooler is on top, radiator on the bottom. Ducting and a vented hood take care of airflow.

The idea is that you can get airflow to both the rad and the intercooler without the intercooler blocking the radiator. The downside is that it requires rearranging the front of the engine bay and some fabrication.
