Fitting in an FC?
It's been years since I sold my 10th AE. As much as I loved the way the car (could have) looked, I could never get over the feeling of being cramped in it. I'm not even a particularly large person - 6'2", 170lbs. I moved on to a 2008 MX-5, which I loved, and didn't feel nearly as cramped in. From there, to a 2011 WRX, which is practically a minivan in terms of space. The RX7's always been a dream car of mine, and I'm hoping to get back into one soon. My memory of the FC's diminutive interior is one of the few points keeping me from it, though.
Can someone reassure me that my mind is just playing tricks on me, so that I can once again chase my dream car? Or is the FC actually a cramped vehicle, and not for me?

The seat can actually be repositioned if you do some "finessing"..rebolting it on the rail.
Another thing to consider is that there are cross supports on the floor that can get removed and you can lower the seat by an inch or so.It is a little drastic but then again it is possible,
I have seen seats permanently positioned and bolted.
Another suggestion is cutting your legs off and introducing you to Jenny(Craig)..but that is highly unlikely!..(ahhahahahhaa!).
Seriously though you are not as big as some of the guys that encounter the same problem. There are more threads on this that can be found.

well, I am 6' 3" 150-165lbs (depending on if coffee is doing its thing) and With the seat all the way back, and tilted just a bit I Don't feel super cramped, but I would not take it on a 10 hour cruise either.
I Do not think I would daily mine, but that's why I have a daily and this is my fun car.

I am having the same concern. I am going to look at an 89 RX7 GXL. I'm 6'2 and a pretty stocky build. Will I have a hard time fitting comfortably in the car? Or will I have to change the seat set up to fit comfortably?

I always felt as if the FC had great space, my pops is 6'4 265 lbs (Dominican) loland fits perfect with seat all the way back.... Unfortunately for my (Boricua) side I'm only 5'10 187 and fit perfect with more than enough room...

Well, I'm 5'11" and feel really cramped in my 85 SE. But I'm long waisted (long torso, shorter legs) so I can't move the seat all the way back which might help the problem if I could reach the pedals LOL. I do find the headroom better using the glass sunroof over the steel roof with the liner.

I'm 6' 2" and have owned 4 FCs. My weight has gone from 185 to 230 lbs. I have a 32" inseam, so not the longest legs. I love the FC because I fit in it so well.
I had the most headroom in the basic that didn't have a sunroof. But the ones with the sunroofs I fit fine. (I did get tangled in the automatic seatbelt a couple of times.) My two GXLs had somewhat adjustable drivers' seats and steering wheels. I actually had the driver's seat one stop short of all the way back in the coups because I felt I was able to work the clutch better that way.
The convertibles do not have adjustable seats nor steering wheels. (I miss them.) But I fit in it fine. The top has plenty of clearance and my seat is OK. It rubs a bit against the baffle all the way back.
I drove all of my coupes as daily drivers. I also drove my '91 GXL from Ohio to NY loaded with belongings. And later from NY to Arizona. I cruised at 90 mph most of the way and was far more comfortable than in several SUVs I've driven or owned. The interiors are cramped for space for drinks and so forth. The 'vert more so than the coupes. I drove my '91 coupe in Erie, PA during the winters (only Buffalo has worse weather) with snow tires and enjoyed sliding it around a lot.
You are the same height, but more slender than I. And your legs are probably a little longer. But I honestly don't think you will have any problems with the FC, though you probably won't want to wear a hat in them.
I only had better head and leg room in the 240-280Zs. But they were originally designed from scratch to fit American men up to 6'4" tall.
You will enjoy it.

I'm only 5'10" and I feel downright claustrophobic in my FC so I think your memory is spot on.
Getting in and out of an FC is a straight bitch, but after I wiggle in and settle down into the seat it's not that bad, but it is noticeable. The only thing about the FD that I value is the cockpit; it's so much better designed.

Grabba Dabba Goo!
I'm fairly small 5'9" and my convertible does feel small my head barley touches roof panel..
I would think a coupe would be better though I haven't Really compared

5'11" and 200# I fit fine. My dad is about the same size as me but he has a long torso and short legs he can only fit comfortably with the sun roof open. I have to agree with sk-017 about the steering wheel. I wish it would tilt up just an inch more
