Unhappy First time swap need help

Ok I am doing my first n/a to turbo swap on a gen 2 87 and I have run into a couple of problems. First I ordered a JDM motor they said was from an 87 (s4 I think) and things just don't look right. How can I tell if they sent me the right year motor. I got the same year because I read here it was the easiest swap and this being my first time and of limited experience with a project of this size didn't want to many curve *****. The thing is the more I look at this motor the more I wonder if they didn't send me an s5 turbo. I am still going to use it but just need to know what I am working with. Plus if somebody has a good thread on the electrical aspect of this swap I am having trouble finding one. Anything helps thanks.

Turbo swaps are covered in detail in the FAQ (includes the link in my signature).

Post some pictures of the engine, and we can tell you what year it is. There are noticeable differences in the turbo, intercooler, MOP, knock sensor location, etc...

S5 has an Electric OMP ..s4 is mechanical.
S4 has a 2 bolt aluminum thermostat neck and S5 has a 3 bolt plastic neck.
That's 2 easy to look for ways to tell the difference.

Thanks guys the OMP is what got me thinking because it was electrical and after looking and seeing the 3 bolt thermostat cover that kind of settles it. Thanks for the help guys.

Ok well after doing some research I have decided not to do the s5 swap and I am returning the motor. Dose any body recommend a place to buy used motors. I know most people say bad things about JDM places but if anybody has had luck with one let and could let me know that would be cool. What other places have any of you had luck with. Anything helps thanks.

I have an 87 GXL and put in a S5. I started out with just a S5 block. Then took off all of my S4 stuff and put it on my S5 block. Now im just trying to get this thing to idle. I found this way to be easy rather then using S5 wiring.
