a few FC N/A problems i need help with

so i have had a 88 FC sitting at the bottom of my shop yard for abour 4 years now. just finally decided to start fixing it up in between alot of our other project cars out here. ive gotten alot of things replaced/fixed pretty quick like but a few things im lost on:

first is the sunroof. at first it had no power and i found the connector in the headliner was loose, but now i can get it to turn the motor (and i can open/close with the emergency open with the allen head) but it will not open or close with the motor, just the motor sits there turning. im assuming that the gears are stripped out on the motor, but didnt know if this was a common problem on the FC

second problem. whenever you take a corner at a intersection, usually in second gear the ignition beap comes on a few times and the lights turn off then back on once its done beaping. the engine is not bogged down so its not stalling out, just cant figure out whats causing it.

third problem is a had gotten a stock cd player for it off ebay. of course they said it was "working fine" and well that was a little bit off. couldnt get it to work worth a darn, so i just decided to put a aftermarket stereo in. wired up pretty quick compared to how hard i thought it would be to find out what wires were what. but only wierd problem is the wire i found for constant power in the harness now loses power when you turn the headlights on, so i lose my stereo at night. but works fine if you dont have the lights on. also if you turn the volume up to much its starts flickering the headunit and then a few more lvls up and it resets the stereo. im assuming either the old headunit i found in my stock room is either bad or im not getting proper power to it.

sorry for the long post full of stuff, but figured i would get it all on one post

Hi,

Just picked up an 88 and I had the same problem with the sunroof. Try pushing it up from the back to try and tilt it up. This was all mine needed to open. It just needed some grease and works ok now.

Can't really help you with the other stuff as I don't have it running well yet or have a radio.

Good Luck!

sunroom problem i have... the tracks need cleaned regreased. mine will open no problem. but when it comes to closing it i have to help it out. maybe give it a hand and see what happens..
the ignition beap could be loose wiring. not sure tho. and your stereo problem sounds like a wiring issue. try running a different constant. that sounds like the issue. it seems to be bad/loose wiring.
thats about all i can tell you. hope it helps!

i figured the stereo problem out. for some reason the ground was the issue. just ran a new ground and it worked. sunroof i have helped it back and greased it before. i guess i will just have to take it completely off and clean the tracks. as for the other i dont think just lose wiring because it only does it around a slow corner in second gear. if it was lose you would assume that it would do it off and on down the road. but ive seen stranger things before!

so another problem to add to the mix lol. i started using 2-stroke oil the last few tanks of gas because i noticed i hadnt been using a bit of oil and its gone a lot of miles. so i figured i wouldnt even mess with the metering system sense i have a couple 50 gallon drums of 2-stroke oil on the shelf. but i noticed today whenever you start the car it smells like coolant badly, but only for the first second or two when you start it, then its normal. its not putting out the white smoke like these motors do when you have coolant leaking into your fuel. any ideas?

For the coolant issue, is it using coolant? If not, then I wouldn't worry about it. IF so, then have the system pressure checked.
The beep and lighting issue is hard to say, I think I would double check the ignition switch wiring. If there was a wire in there that was slightly loose, maybe the turning the steering wheel would cause an intermittent problem. With the car running try turning the steering wheel to the right and back and see if you can duplicate the problem.
