Few FC issues

Hiya. I'm not entirely new to the concept of rotary, I've been around them my whole life, but that doesn't make me an expert :P

I come here seeking guidance from people who actually know what they are doing lol.

Here goes:

The car:
It's a 1989 RX-7 GTU

Motor:
Its a 13b (non turbo sadly) Bridgeport, with the injection system replaced by a 650 Holly 4 barrel carb. (I believe this is where my main problems come from)

Problems:
Not enough power! It has top speed but absolutely no kick off the line and a dead rate of acceleration. I recently replaced the slave cylinder, and I'm replacing the plugs today, but I think the main issue of power has something to do with that fact that it's such a large carb.

It blows massive amounts of smoke that smells like gas. I dunno if it's because it sat for awhile, or if the seals just haven't been broken in.

Those are the two big issues right now. If someone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

To recap:
Not enough power, and it blows too much smoke that smells like raw gas.

You're correct. The carbureted bridgeport is a terrible combination.

The problem is you need a large carb to keep it fuelled up top, but down low it's an issue. The issue is that the primaries vs. the secondaries draw completely different vacuum so it's very hard to jet the thing in. Swapping to an IDA style carb will help a lot. Even better, go to fuel injection.

Probably running way too rich with not enough timing.

Thanks a bunch. Wouldnt I need to change a lot of stuff to take it back to injection though?

details aside, you should probably build around a new intake system. of course, you'll need decent engine management and to re-install your CAS.

Yes, what he said. The stock EFI system really isn't suitable. The car will run, but no better then when the carb.

Normally people go to an IDA style manifold with separate throttle bodies. You're going to lose torque down low no matter what you do. You also need a decent exhaust system with a long tube header.

Ok, thanks for the help. I'll try and update this again soon.

As for the smoke thing, would some good old fashioned sea foam solve it? I don't really know if it's smoking because of carbon or not, but it was sitting for about 6 months before I bought it.
