fd3s motor swap options need help

hey everyone, well i am currently looking into pruchasing a 93 Rx7 twin turbo model. the car has about 60k miles on it runs but smokes. My guess is the apex seals are done, so im looking at swapping the motors. not looking to do anything crazy just yet.

my question is which motor would be best for a daily driver weekend drifter with some power.

13b re cosmos
13b twin turbo
20b ?

im still trying to learn about these motor and the specs. i wanna keep the car twin turbo for the most part just for the uniguness.

there are other options i can do like the 2jz, rb26dett, vg35dett, or even ls1 but not sure i wanna do those yet thus why i thought of keeping it all mazda for now. just trying to figure out which motor to replace the old one with?

thanks i advance for your help

The smoke is probably from the turbos. The best motor for a DD and weekend drifter is going to be another 13B REW.

Here is a link to the 3rd gen FAQ thread. you'll find buying guides, info about mods and other good stuff in this link. Spend some time reading it.

I suggest you start with a compression test. No point in tearing anything apart if you don't know what is wrong.

Don't do a 13b cosmo, it's less powerful than a stock engine. Don't do a 20B, it's a very difficult process and very expensive. Just mod a stock engine well and you'll come out way ahead.

No, they don't really. People do have some issues keeping the solenoids and stuff working perfectly though.

is the smoke oil or coolant? either could be getting into the combustion chamber resulting in the need for a rebuild. if the apex seals r gone it would run very poorly, if at all. get ur post count up so u can visit the 3rd gen section.

If your considering doing a ls1 swap i would recommend heading over to http://www.v8rx7forum.com/index.php and reading up on it there. Imo you can build a very reliable rotary for the cost of doing the swap. Some parts may need to be fabricated and even with an extra set of hands it will take some time to do.

white smoke is definitely coolant so that would mean a rebuild.

Ditch the 13b, makes an amazing car grief and you will end up hating it, unless your loaded!

I say check your compression, ditch the stock Twin turbos and go Single. If your willing to spend some cash.....build the motor!!
