FD Stock coolant question
FD Stock coolant question
Greetings. What would be a good coolant for a completely stock FD? I read the other forums and I'm aware of Mazda requirements and other member preferences on mixing...tough choice...
What would be a good choice? Zerex G-05 or Prestone 50/50 "Green".
Thanks in advance!

IMO any green stuff would probably be fine. Personally I use the Zerex “Red Asian” coolant...silicate and borate free. I think at least as important is to change the coolant at least every couple years. I do annually as part of my “get it out of winter storage” routine. I like to run a little more water to coolant. I keep a few jugs of distilled water in my shop for that...and my WI system.

Green always.
Orange (Dexcool) can eat through gaskets and cause rust. It was designed by GM for GM vehicles, and they've had class action suits because of the stuff.
If you try to mix the 2 colors they will turn into a gel.
I use plain ol' Prestone, 70% water 30% coolant and a shot glass full of of Water Wetter.

avoid 2-EHA !
Mazda FL22 is what you want . the company changed coolant a decade ago-ish for reason related to GM discovery stated above.
article fromRx8club;
Most of the all makes/all models coolants/antifreezes sold at places like Advanced Auto, Autozone, Walmart, Pepboys, O'Reilly's, and other stores contain 2-ethylhexanoate (2-EHA).
Essentially, these coolants are Dexcool clones (without explicitly stating such, so as to avoid having to pay GM royalty fees).
"2-ethylhexanoate (2-EHA) is a cost-effective but controversial additive that softens plastics, particularly silicone, leading to leaks from affected sealing materials, which means that silicone cannot be used in gaskets, O-rings, and hoses if the antifreezecontains 2-EHA."

Wow, I did a little research on Bob is the Oil Guy and sure enough, Prestone contains 2-EHA.
Peak Global does not, nor does Zerex Asian, or most coolants used as OEM in Asian cars.
