CA FD problems

hey I have a 93 TT. im having some problems tho. it idles around 1200rpm and is running a bit rough when it idles at 750, also my boost psi is running at 5-0-5. usually vacuum is somewhere between 16-18 on a regular basis. ive been reading around and found some similar problems but nothing like this and would like to find a good place to start.

So you have 2 issues:
- Idle
- Boost

How long have you had the car? When was the last time you replaced spark plugs, wires, fuel filter?

You said it idles at 1200 rpm then you said it also idles at 750. So which is it? Are you talking about idle when cold or when the motor is up to temps? It could be a vacuum leak or it could be that the mechanical screws on the throttle body need adjustment. The Factory Service Manual has the procedure and there are a few threads in the 3rd gen FAQ on the topic. As for boost, a good place to start is the 3rd gen FAQ thread under the T section (for turbo) There is a link to the autosport turbo troubleshooting site. Link: http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-...leshooting.htm

Happy reading.

Happy reading.

i have had it for about 3 weeks now it will idle at 1200 upon start up for some time and not drop down untill the gas pedal is pressed a bit then it will idle at 750 but its rough and shakey sometimes. i am planning on changing plugs wires and filters this weekend so we will see if that fixes the idle problem. As for the boost problem the guy i bought the car from had the engine rebuilt about 10k miles ago and had records to prove it. im just going to piece together a single kit to put on it at some point but would like to get the stock twins going till then. i am going to pick up a set of stockers this weekend and install them since my secondary leaks a bit of oil and i am getting them rebuilt for a good deal and replacing all vacuum hoses with a kit from RX7 store so hopefully that will solve my problem for now till i get a good single kit. thanks for the help.

On the idle, check that the stock/original idle control is in place - including the automated warm up controls. Stock the car will rev to somewhere around 3000 rpm and then slowly drop down as the car warms up. Some mod happy people remove those controls so that there is little/no cold/warm idle controls and try to control the idle using the mechanical settings on the TB. This leads to either poor cold idle or poor warm idle since it can't handle both.
