FD are the later series more reliable?

Hi,

I was wondering if the series 8 were considered more reliable than the earlier series ?

I've searched the forums and read differents things... mostly found that the later series have improvements&equipments, but nothing about the engine and overall reliability.
I'd like to know if it makes a real difference, according to their actual owners...

Most of us here in North America never saw S8’s. We got S6’s only. Over those three model years we did see, there were improvements. Off-hand things like strengthened 5th gear synchros, some additional bracing on the rear crossmember, strengthened clutch fork, and more durable interior finishes come to mind. Later series had better airflow to the radiator from the redesigned front bumper, elimination of a trouble-prone rubber coupler at the Y pipe outlet, improved turbos, a more powerful ECU and a better design for the solenoid rack. Probably more that I can’t remember. With the availability of parts that generally bolt-up to our older cars, many of us have incorporated a lot these improvements in our old, but LHD, S6’s.

Thanks a lot for these complementary informations.
And, obviously, they have generally lower mileage and less rust. And, currently there are more series 8 available in UK at a good price (compared to my country, at least)
So it would make sense to buy a newer one, in better condition and with a more durable lifespan.

The thing is I would really prefer a LHD (I'm in France) and I've got a slight preference for the old design compared to the new ones...
that's why it's such a pain to choose one ☺️
