FC3S S4 ECU options
FC3S S4 ECU options
Hi, i live in the UK and have an S4 Turbo FC3S which is a jap import and has an N340 ecu. No im trying to find out what ecu's are compatable. All the search options refer to S5, and US cars but there is very little info on UK and JAP spec S4 cars. I know the S4 turbo is rare, but there has been some info saying that N374 ecu's will work as they are a jap spec ecu?
The reason im asking is i have 2-3 'upgraded/chipped' N374 ecu's available, but i want to know whether they will work or not.
Any help would be appreciated,
Lee

The s5 engine has an electrical Oil metering system and other Stupid features!
They couldn't leave the old reliable mechanical system alone.
The S5 ecu goes into limp mode when that part fails, but the S4 is pretty well a Run good or doesn't run system..
Those numbers I gave you are for USDM engines.
here is a link that may help:

If you post in the European section you may get a answer or more info to any ECU questions.
A guy named Higgi(I don't think he would mind if you Private message him as he is always helpful) may be able to help you further.
He seems to know a lot about the electrical systems.

N332, N333 and N340 are interchangeable, most of EU spec S4 TII's i have seen came with N340, but when upgrading to Rtek, we regullary got US N332 or N333 units with Rtek and just plugged it in place of N340

N344 is EU spec S4 turbo, i have atleast 2 of them here, just installed one into car yesterday and can test another one as well.....
I can scan you wiring diagram (ECU pinout) of EU S4 TII ECU if it helps you to compare with Jspec engine you have....i dont see reason why it would not work....

Looks like you can even use N319 ECU, according to this ebay ad:
MAZDA RX7 TURBO 1986 1988 ENGINE ECU UNIT JDM #420 | eBay
MAZDA RX7 TURBO 1986 1988 ENGINE ECU UNIT JDM #420 | eBay
according to this post, N319 (Aus spec S4 TII ECU) is interchangeable with N333 with rtek chip, exactly as we experienced with N344 being interchangeable with N332 and N333.....

I bet you can get any of S4 TII ECU's and it will run ok :
N340 (JDM)
N319 (AUS)
N333 (USDM)
N332 (USDM)
N344 (EUDM)

We are talking turbo ECUs and they all have CAS, no matter which market.
Only EU NA cars came with distributor in place of CAS and therefor with completely different ECU (N322)
OP of this thread can definately use N319, N332, N333, N340 or N344 and they all are from CAS equipped motors.
Please edit your post, as its partially wrong (some might say its BS)

For all our EU S4 cars, we simply got N333 or N332 ECU already chipped by rtek from states, including 2.0 or 2.1....
It was cheaper than shipping your N344 ecu to states, get it chipped and then pay another shipping. And with 2 ECU's, you have option to remove rtek and put back stock ECU when selling car etc..

hIGGI,
I currently have a J-spec swap with the N340 that the engine and harness came with. Am I able to simply buy a N332/N333 with an Rtek1.7 and plug that in to my existing harness?
Sorry to barge in
