Yep, its a clutch pack LSD. All pre 89 LSD's in Mazda's were the clutch pack style.
The viscous LSD was not used until 89 in the GTUs (note the small S, don't confuse with a GTU) and the 89 Turbo. By 92 however the viscous was discontinued because of poor performance and wearing out of the fluid. A viscous is really only a half step above a open differential and not really a performance oriented LSD.
The Torsen (or Helical as you call it) was first used in the 91 Infini IV, but continued in various forms through the FD and FE (RX-8) today.
