Exhaust question about Cats and boost!

I just bought a 93 Rx7 with only 27k on it. It has a few minor upgrades such as blitz intercooler, (not a front mount), K+N cold air kit, blow off valve and a dragger muffler. I had the compression checked and it was above 115!! The original owner REALLY babied the car. The car is not fast enough or loud enough as it sits as it still has all of the catalytic converters. I was going to completely straight pipe it from the pre-cat back. I was told 2 things....one was the car would HAVE to be tuned and a piggy back computer would have to be added and secondly that the boost would then be too high and NOT safe. So my question is......can I just get rid of the Cats and be done and also be safe?? Thanks for the advice in advance! Bill
