Exhaust Installation

Hello all. My exhaust (stock) seems to be too narrow and thus rubs and makes noise against the heat shields around the gas tank. I am trying to figure out what this issue is and haven't had much success. I removed the silencers and nothing looks bent. Could the rubber donuts that hold the exhaust up lose their elasticity and cause it to bend in? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

Car information?

Rubber donuts break down with age and allow exhaust systems to sag.

Is there an easier way to mount the rubber donuts? I had a hell of a time getting them off.

Not really. They just get stretched into place.
