Vehicle info needed. If your profile info is right, it's an FC...

Mazda dealer or Mazdatrix (http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm).

I have the same issue in my car... You for sure need the '86-'92 Middle Boot Kit. (Three boot kit.)

You may or may not need the '81-'95 Inner Boot on Shift Lever. It just depends on the condition it is in.

Be sure to check your 'leather' shift boot (interior) for any tears.

Might as well do a shifter rebuild while your in there... simple and makes a world of difference!

FWIW I made a heat-shield of sorts using some under-layment for vinyl flooring I had, some heavy aluminum foil and silicone caulk. Wrapped the foil around the underlayment using the caulk as a binder. Cut it to the pattern of the OEM boot and added holes. Then put my new boot on top. Surprisingly it worked. Maybe a little quieter too. Been there for about 6 or 7 yrs. and still going strong.
