engine slowly turns but will not crank

My babys a 87 GXL 1.3L 13b. I've had her about two mounths now and aquired her from a shady man loooking to make a deal. Storey time aside, my car had been running fine until a week ago, I was leaving for work but when I climed
in and turned the key she made this loud wirring sound, and you could tell the engine was spinning over, only very slowly and refused to start no matter how long I tried. I had hoped it was only my old and worn out main fuse box, but when I replaced it with a new one the problem didn't change.Although I did notice that after several failed starting attempts the engine began picking up speed, but still refued to start.
I apoligize for my inability to easily explain things, but you have to understand this my first car, I know next to nothing about my rx7.
But I love my car and desperitly want to get it back in working order.
I'm sorry for the rambling.
Thank you for time, please help if you can.

FYI, "crank" means to rotate the engine with the starter. "start" means that it actually catches and starts.

It could be many things but start simple. Check the condition of the battery leads and terminals. A loose battery or main ground connection will cause these kinds of problems. Check the general condition of the battery and voltage.

The engine began turning faster because it is now flooded, so once you fix the slow cranking, you'll need to unflood it.

Sounds like your starter isnt engaging with the flywheel (the whirring sound). Try realigning the starter with the flywheel or tightening the starter bolts maybe they are alittle loose.

I actually just had my starter checked, and found out that it busted. I've already ordered a new one, and it should arrive sometime this week. Thanks to everyone, I couldn't have done it without you.
Again, thanks.

Unhappy RX7 mystery - problems continue

Hello, my name is jason. And I recently changed the oil on my 87 rx7.
After I complted the oil change the car started right up and ran for about five min.
then I shut it off checked the oil (it was full) and tried to start it again and it
just refused, I tried off and on for a while and still nothing. I then made sure the
problem wasn't flooding (it wasn't).
I've tried again and again, no matter what I do it won't start.
Have I done somthing wrong, please if anyone has any ideas please share them.

Thank you, for your time.

It sounds as though it is severely flooded again. It really shouldn't flood like this and it indicates another problem such as leaking injectors, general poor tune, low compression, or all of the above.

A flooded car will always start via a push start from another vehicle. Then you need to run it long enough to burn all that junk out of the engine (go for a drive). Then change the spark plugs after it cools down.
