engine issues 1988 13b
My 13b has problems on start the idle goes up and down on it's own (sometimes) When the engine warms up the idle is fine but will bog out at various RPM when the revs drop a bit it kicks back in only to bog down if you get it just right it will go in and out over the span of just a couple of hundred rpm This has been ongoing but used to resolve itself after a few mintues it would buck a couple time like it was clearing itself and then it would rum ok. Now it may bog at 2500 or not until 4000 you can actually feel it go in and out. I must admit I have always disliked this car and within a couple of months of purchase back in 1989 wished I had opted for the Z28. It gets the gas mileage of a 60s Caddy with the performance of a Vega. Anyway anyone have any ideas, if it was a normal engine I would say a cly was missing if I shut the car off and restart it it will go a few hundred feet with full power right to the Red line but will then bog restart it and go a few hundred more feet never stalls just won't rev the cat was gutted years ago so thats not it. No one wants to work on it including the Mazda dealer. I changed the fuel filter no change.

check into TPS adjustment.
when it goes out of whack, you will get the bouncy idle, til warm scenario.
sometimes a bit of hesitation in power band,
And the weird thing is sometimes it is fine,it won;t do it at that specific RPM..then it will..again.

Diabolical I think this can be answered by a "would you like to buy it" It was 16000.00 and when it was a year old was generating offers in the 10 range. Over the years I have on several occasions tried to sell it. I recently offered it at 1700.00 with no takers. The car has never been what I would call reliable although it has always got to where it was going most recently at a max of 40kms bucking all the way. On the good side the body has not rusted and the interior has held up well. In 1994 I finally bought the brand new Camaro Z28 which was a blast and provied years of knock down FUN I replaced the dist and many sets of tires... I know it's an apples to oranges comparison unfortunatly I must stand behind the mileage of a caddy performance of a Vega...The Mazda simply sat and was only driven to keep it current. Anyway I do believe someone could still enjoy it and scapping it seems a shame considering the body I was so frustrated the other day it almost got crushed right there and then

How often has the car been driven? If you let a car sit around long enough, the fuel system will go to hell. Fuel socks and filters get plugged, and hoses and o-rings crack. http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/unstore.htm
I'd replace the wear parts of the fuel system, check for engine trouble codes (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...55#post5131155), and test sensor voltages at the ECU connectors (FSM fuel and emissions section).
This is a fantastic way to get people to help you on an RX7 forum! It sounds like you just bought the wrong model. A stock TII would have put you at about the same power/weight ratio as an '88 Z28 (they only had 220-230hp), but it would have handled much better.
