Engine Cut......

Hey i just got an n/a FC project car and it has been sat for two years until i bought it. I just started i up today and it runs fine other than puking out a **** load of smoke until it warmed up! Only issue motor wise so far is that when i try to rev it up it hits 4grand and then cuts out back to idle. When i say it cuts out it doesnt actually shut off it just stops and the rpms drop until i take my foot off the gas and re apply it.

Any ideas what it could be? TPS buggered?

And as an FYI it wont n/a for long! Just need to get it running and have it as a secondary run around car until i build up a bt!

Thanks in advance!

When you say rev up, are you talking about free reving it, or actual driving?

If driving, it sounds like your secondary injectors are not working. They will be staged with the primaries at 3800 rpm. So if they're not working at all, the primaries will max out soon after and the engine will bog.

A quick and dirty way to see if they're working or not is to unplug them & see if there is any change in behavior. If nothing changes, it's likely they were never firing to begin with. The better way to do it will be to grab a multimeter and test directly at the secondary injector plugs. I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think the secondaries will fire without engine load, so you'll probably have to jack up the rear end or run some wires into the car and take it for a drive.

hey well the first time i noticed the cut was when i was driving. I stretched out first gear and felt the car just bog as the rpms dropped right off. It did it a couple of times so i stopped and revved the engine to see if there was any noticeable similar behaviour and pretty much right on the button at 4grand it did the same thing.

Based on what you just said it sounds like you may be right!

Ok so a new problem arose today. Started the car up fine and it spluttered a little and then shut off completely. Now it wont idle at all. If i keep the gas at half throttle it stays alive but if i back off at all then the motor just stalls completely as soon as it hits 1000rpm. I was thinking maybe i should be looking to adjust the idle screw on the throttle body but it was idling fine the other day on its first start up. Any ideas?
