PA Engine from an Auto FC into a Manual FC

I have an 86 N/A FC with a manual trans. and I just bought a 13b from an 87 N/A off of my friend that was automatic. He told me I have to change the flywheel but I'm still alittle confused on what all I have to do with the engine to get it to bolt up to the manual transmission with no problems. Some one please help!?

i believe its just a straight flywheel and counterweight drop. good oppurtunity to swap an aftermarket flywheel just make sure you are gonna use the automatic tranny counterweight if you do decide to use an aftermarket flywheel. you have to use the the automatic tranny counterweight to properly balance everything just fyi im sure there are other members that will get more in depth and technical than me . i know racing beat sells the counterweight removal tool and they sell another tool that maybe useful to you but check the racing beat website to be sure . good luck to you

Thanks for the help. Another thing is, the engine is out of the car obviously and I want to be completely sure the engine has good compression how can I tell if it does or doesnt? I spun the flywheel a few times and I get pretty strong sounding puffs of air come out of the sparkplug holes so I know that at least means it has at the very lest alittle compression.

im doing the same thing on my fc..the main things that ive notice is that theres an extra hose that comes out from the top of the block..near the oil fill tube? and also i tried to put in my old pilot bearing into the auto motor and for some reason it doesnt go all the way in the e-shaft...?

It is hard to do a real compression test with the engine out of the car because you can't spin it fast enough. Unless you bolt it to a transmission and spin it with the starter.

As for the swap, yes, all you need to do is swap the flywheel and front counterweight. There are some things you need to be aware of when you remove the front cover:

The pilot bearing should fit. How far is it going in?

I'm certain that the shafts are the same. Perhaps there is a buildup of junk in the shaft?
