ECU question
OK, I posted an earlier thread about getting an error diagnostic reading about my oil metering pump. The pump was removed and was not working correctly. I purchased another usesd pump that was working and installed it. Prior to this my 93 RX-7 was running in limp mode and I figured it was because the oil metering pump was not working correctly. My mechanic had taken the ECU out at one point and opened it up to have a look and did notice some black spots on the board. I'm not sure if the ECU itself is faulty and needs to be replaced. Back to where I was going, the oil metering pump was replaced and the car is still in limp mode. Not receiving any other error codes? Could the ECU need to be replaced, or what else could be causing this? Also wiring to OMP is working properly.
If it's anything like the electric OMP / ECU setup on an S5 ('89-'92), when the OMP fails, it'll take the ECU with it. I just saw some pictures recently of fried resistors on an S5 owner's circuit board.
Did you check the wiring to the OMP? IF there is a problem with the wiring then, it would appear to the ECU that the OMP was still failed and it won't get out of limp mode. Did you read the codes/lights to determine if the error code was related to the OMP after replacing?
Thanks to all that replied! I am finally out of limp mode after replacing the OMP and the ECU. Car runs very strong again. On a side note, solely replacing the bad OMP did not fix the limp mode, it wasn't until i also replaced the ECU that the problem went away, thanks again!
