driveshaft differences

Hey I am currently in the middle of a turbo engine and transmission swap into my GXL FC. I have a driveshaft that fits into the turbo 2 transmission but somehow it also fits on my original diff... From what I have read this isn't supposed to be possible. The only problem is that the shaft is about 2 inches longer than my original NA one so it doesn't quite fit. My questions are where could this driveshaft have come from? what can I do to shorten its length? Any help is appreciated. Btw the shaft has no signs of cutting or welding it looks like its completely original.

There were Conversion shafts made for the N/A to TII Diff and also Vice-versa.(mazdatrix).
Another "ghetto way' that guys did this too was to make the rear of the driveshaft fit by "messing with" the holes of the flange on the Driveshaft.(Not recommended)
Personally If I upgraded the Engine power I would also be upgrading the Rear of the car too.

The automatic transmissions are about 2" longer than the manual transmissions, so they use a driveshaft that is about 2" shorter.

Trust me if I had the money I would get the diff too, currently a jobless student lol but managed to get most of the parts I wanted/needed before leaving my job. My transmission is manual already just switching it to the turbo Trans instead. I have a pic of the comparison but am not sure how to post pics

top is original NA shaft, bottom shaft somehow fits into the turbo 2 tranny and also my original NA diff... the shaft looks unmodified and I have no clue what car it came from. only problem is its a little long so I think I should shorten it to my original shaft length?

You can "get By" with a TII shaft and elongate the holes on the flange that goes on the diff.
It is not the best setup but it does work in a pinch,as the front Diff flange will center the driveshaft flange due to the Raised center portion.

I wouldn't cut and weld the driveshaft back together. Your best bet is to take the front flange that fits the Turbo2 trans and the rear flange that fits the N/A rear end, take an N/A driveshaft and take it to a shop that is able to make a custom driveshaft for you. That way you will have the correct length driveshaft that bolts right up and you won't have to worry about anything. I feel like cutting and welding a driveshaft back together is just not a good thing.

OR,you can post up a "Wanting to Buy" thread in Classifieds and ask others for a TII to N/A Driveshaft..OR buy one from Mazdatrix.
Either way,you gotta spend cash somewhere.
