Driver side windows track is broken. What is the part called to replace it?
So at the moment I just bought an 87 RX7 and the previous owner had a window off track (Right now its held up by a pair of visegrips on the track.) I need to replace the track but I do not want to replace everything including the window motor. But seeing as I have no ability to roll my windows down currently im stuck with no AC or air in my car unless I take off the visegrips and open the moonroof.
So my question is:
What is the part called I need to replace? How much am I looking at?
If its the entire "door window regulator" Then I already know my answer.
But is there a process for taking it out?
Thanks in advance

so EASY to take the window out and replace the regulator.
It is actually a track and motor assembly.
IF you can get the window Half way down you are sailing.
Window Half way down.
Take off screws from interior door card.Pop the Triangle piece off the mirror,From the inside track of the door.(it clips on the edge inside the track portion)It will pop towards the inside and carefully take it off the door.It makes taking the card out easier.
Once you get the card and window switches out of the way you can take the card off.
Once the card is off you can see plastic.Rip the plastic, whatever as you have to get to the window Screws..2 of them in the moddle of the bottom of the window.
You can get at the screws by the holds in the door..Philips head or 10mm.your choice.
The window is now sitting on the mount/regulator .
Pull the window up and slant the big end UP and the window wil lpop right out of the door.
YOU MAY encounter the plastic retainers in the glass getting hung up on the sill.
If this happens lower the window and reach in and around the INSIDE(between the window and the Door SKIN) and crimp the plastic retainer with your fingers. It will pop out of the little holes in the glass that are used to hold it in/on the window.
If that is done the window slides right up and you are again Golden!
Find the connector for the reulator, unclip it.if you have the nuts/bolts off just go ahead and it should come right out...(may need a little fussing, but it does come out and go in.)

I am curious about something. What would it take to replace the automatic windows with manual ones instead?
I feel it would be less problematic later on down the line.
Im also noticing that it is cheaper then the automatic window regulator.

No sweat to it..BUT you need the DOOR CARDS also to make it look decent,as they are different.
Manual crank assembly and door cards, door handle.
The Slide portion(track) and the crank are attached together(cable) so basically that is one unit.
All the holes are molded n the door already so it is just a matter of removal and replacing units.
I actually did this as I hated having electric doors and didn't want to be stuck trying to roll a window down if I worked on the car with the battery disconnected...( I thought ahead..lol!)

I might stick with the automatic ones for the time being until I get the tune up finished with. Having the door panel off makes it looks pretty shotty.
Thanks alot for the advice
