Recently bought a 1990 RX7 GTU. ~156k km, decent shape with surprisingly little rust since it's been a Canadian car its whole life. Couple quirks that I think I know the causes, just like to have em confirmed.

-Wipers: intermittent function works...intermittently. Usually not though. Slow and Fast work perfectly every time. Relay in the switch, I think? I'm comfortable with circuit work so I should be able to handle this one.

-Passenger headlight: slow in raising, but raises every time. Need grease, or a new motor?

-Sunroof: sticks when opening and closing. Slides forward and back flawlessly, but when tilting open it needs a nudge and closing needs a push from above.

-Clock: doesn't work. At all. Probably a solder connection, as suggested by many other topics on these boards.

-Driver's door open sensor switch: not sure what this is called. Doesn't turn on dome light when door is open or light up the idiot light. Doesn't feel like the switch goes in and out when you push it. Should be a simple fix, right?

-Dash beeper doesn't work most of the time. Once every few drives when I open the door with the key in it'll beep at me, but usually not. Probably a connection.

I may need new rear shocks or something as there's an occasional clunk from the aft if I hit a bump while turning. May need a new clutch soonish.

Aside from these things, it runs great and passed inspection. This is my dream car right now so I am very happy

 

Almost everyone of those problems is very common and covered in the FAQ.

The door open switches tend to get gunked up. One Phillips screw removes them and then clean with solvent and lube up with dielectric grease.

 

I just popped out the door open switch and it more or less crumbled in my hands from rust. The spring was stuck fully compressed and broke when I tried to stretch it. :-/ I'll go to the hardware store tomorrow to see if I can find anything similar, doesn't look like anything special at all.

There're depressingly few RX7s for sale locally in parts condition. A friend of mine had a '90 GXL parts car a few months ago, but he left it at his mom's when he went out west and she had it junked

 

wow really are common problems. I have them all but sunroof and wiper blades. My wipers are broken just not the same as yours (wont go back down all the way) lol and i have no sunroof. gonna check wires today about the clock thing. Will report back when i figure it out

 

so I poked around under the dash yesterday and it appears the P/O did some reqiring. There are some harnesses that have electrical tape around em. Not sure which ones they are but it could explain some of the problems :P

I would be worried about how well of a job he did but it hasn't caught fire yet so I think I'm good.
