I was wondering if I would be able to afford a stock '93-'95 FD on a 60k/yr salary. Also, I would like a general idea of how much it would cost to install a few bodykit parts to make it look cool?

 

You should be able to afford an FD just fine. Of course, not knowing the details of your finances I can't really make any further comments.

However, on top of the car budget about $5000 in a just-in-case fund. These are old cars, and unless you buy something which has been dutifully cared for, you'll almost certainly have to make some repairs. If you have to pay someone else to make these repairs, the cost adds up quickly.

As for a body kit, it depends on what your definition of "cool" is. If you are paying someone to do it, figure $10,000 minimum.

 

If you find a truly nice example of an FD, leave the body kits off the car.

Also, if you buy a good running one, just drop it off at a rotary shop and have them replace everything old with new stuff and beef up the cooling systems you should have a good running car for a long time. If you get greedy and start chasing power, thats when the problems come in. These cars are so much fun as is, simply improving the car and maintaining its great balance is all you should ever need if you enjoy driving.

No, not as a daily. And as you indicated in another thread...not if you can't do the maintenance and routine repairs yourself. And not on 60k in California, not if you have any debt getting out of College and not if you ever want to save for something more important...like a home.
