Unhappy Cooling system dilemma

So I have read the faq and i have searched many a forums and many a helpful writeups and even the factory service manual but i cannot find a answer to help me and my cooling system problem. Well first off my car has a blown coolant seal that much i know it results in a hard start problem etc.. i constantly check the coolant level topping it off all that good stuff and i know the S5 gauges are not the most accurate last night i was comming home from work and it started to creep up so i shut it down and coasted to a stop i check coolant level it was low so i refilled it and i went to "burp" the system by letting the car run and it just kept blowing air bubbles i did this for about half an hour and the temp was fine i put the rad cap back on and then it started to overheat and i could feel the air bubble in the thermostat piping. It would be cold one spot but hot the other. Now i commited the biggest error a rotary driver could do but sadly i had to home i decided i will drive it and stop and go along the way so i get on the freeway and the temp just drops back to operating and randomly as i am driving it would spike then just drop back down to operating temp and whenever it would spike the heater would stop blowing hot but when it was at operating temp it would blow nice and toasty so I extend my hand out to the genius that exist on this forum any ideas?

You have a bad coolant seal, that's your cooling system delimma. If you don't have the engine stripped down to have it replaced, you're gonna end up have the engine stripped down to replace the rotor housing, rotors, and much more. Save some money and hopefully if the housings and rotors are good you can get a rebuilt engine for less than 4K, better yet just find a used engine that works and swap that in for the time being.

But running your engine with a bad coolant seal is like playing lighting/putting out/re-lighting a fuse. Eventually it's gonna run out. //

You might have a loose wire or bad ground which is causing the gauge to read all wonky.

But if you do have an internal coolant seal gone bad, read this:

Did you use the Alumaseal when you tried to fix it? Or something else?

The motor is doing great! Just took her down to NC and back (nearly 2,000 miles total on her) and had no issues at all. I've got about 8,000 miles on the motor since the repair, and you'd never know she ever had a coolant seal issue....
