New to the forum. Doing a custom installation of a 13B RE. The pictures below show what I think is the water pump coolant outlet on my engine. It has a tower with a black cap on it, and the outlet is at a 90 degree angle to the engine centerline. Questions:
- What is the purpose of the tower? Is the black cap removable?
- Are there other outlets with a straight outlet tube? Where can I get them? A straight outlet would work better for me I think.
Thanks in advance - Rocki

Hi Rocki!
The tower on the water pump likely serves as a coolant outlet for better flow and pressure regulation. The black cap may be removable, but it’s best to consult your engine's manual for specifics.
For straight outlet options, you can check with aftermarket suppliers or specialized auto parts stores. Many enthusiasts also find useful parts on forums or marketplaces like eBay.
That black cap is the highest part of the cooling system and I believe can be is used to add coolant and remove air in the system. What research have you done?
