Converting a street port back to stock port
Hi, this is my first real post and pretty new to RX-7s.
I have a first gen track car (used to be Pro7 car) and the motor was recently rebuilt by a pro with new seals, etc. and also street ported. I'd like to convert it to run in IT7 which prohibits street port, but also try to reuse the new parts.
So what I'm thinking is that I can find two replacement side housing from a stock 12a, disassemble my motor and swap em over and reassemble. I thought to get a couple of the books and videos like Atkins. I've rebuilt other motors before so I'm not really afraid of it, just don't want to make any bad assumptions.
Make sense? Advice for a newbie? Got a couple of good cond 12a side housings for sale?
Thanks!

I agree. Swap in another running 12a and keep the street port for later use. Or, sell it and make more than enough to purchase another stock port motor....

Thanks guys, makes sense. I want to try and utilize all those new seals and stuff but I guess I can have a stock one rebuilt if I buy one that needs it. Maybe I can get a GSL cheap and get my hands on the LSD and a couple spare fenders and doors too.
Anything in a stock 12a that I should absolutely consider a rebuild instead of installing it in a track car? In my past racing an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and nothing sucks like breaking at the track.
