AL Convert window trim repair technique

91 convertible that has sat for most of the last 12 years. The is relatively little rust but one area that is really bad is the window trim where the door window meets the door.

There is plastic over metal and metal is rusted and plastic is chipped and almost gone.

Just checking if anyone else had this problem and what techniques they used. Both window regulators will have to be rebuild so I'll have to go into the door at some point.

Posting some picture of the trim problem and one of the car.

Very common. Order new ones from the dealer because Mazda updated the part so they are all plastic now. No more rust.

I never thought about a dealer. I surfed the net and it basically came down to like $60. a side and the ones on the inside weren't much cheaper. I'll have to check that out because I've been putting that off.

i think mazdatrix or some of the other aftermarket co. carry them,i dont remember them being that high, you will see the replacements being sold now that have been on cars for a couple of years at good prices, oops noticed you have the vert, that will be a bit tougher,it may be the coupe pieces are cheaper too, theres window reg sets on here for sale often, most people will just buy whole assemblys to replace, again, the vert pieces are diff there too

I had that on my 86 coupe too.
what I did was get an Exacto knife and cut off the plastic and then Buff the metal up with a small wire wheel.
it turned out rather well.
I got some spares here now,so when I get rambunctious I will throw the "new ones" on.
