clutch upgrades for stock 84 gsl se

is it safe to upgrade to a stage 4 clutch from a bare bone stock gsl se? will it kill my tranny? thx

Why would you want to? Just put in a stock clutch which will be cheaper, easier to drive and wear less on the drivetrain. For stock power, all you need is a stock clutch.

No, it won't hurt the drivetrain in any way. It will just make the car harder to drive for no reason, and cost more without any real benefit.

Clutch

I agree. If everything's stock, or even if you plan on mild power improvements (i.e. exhaust, intake, porting) the stock clutch/pressure plate will do the job. My 84 GSLSE has all of the mods I referenced above, plus I have 225/18/40 Kumho's (a softer tire) on my car and the stock clutch provides great grip, even on hard launches.
