Which clutch should I install, urgent - Manchester, England...
Hi guys, I have had my fd3s for about two months now, it is runninhg around 315bhp, It had been fitted with a paddle clutch. I use the car every day so bought a standard replacment clutch, my main question is how much hp will the standard clutch take before it starts to slip? Im now also unsure if the clutch ive bought is a genuine one or not, It has the exedy markings but has a dull and not shiny clutch cover.
The clutch ive just removed has a similar looking uprated exedy cover plate, but with a polished finish as I think they should have. This is in good condition but the three paddle clutch plate is worn quite thin compared to the new plate. ( it also had a very high bite point but wasnt slipping).
Im now wondering whether to install the new standard clutch plate with the uprated cover or to install it using the new standard clutch cover.
Ive no plans to uprate the power, so should the standard clutch handle 315bhp?
Please let me know your thoughts, I'll be putting the car back together this monday.
Thanks
Phil

How bad is the old pressure plate worn? I usually would not use an old pp with a new disk but if the new disk can't handle the power then you will be in the same boat as if the old pp was slipping from being worn out.

If primary use of the car is on the street, I'd recommend going to a more traditional clutch. I also wouldn't want to do the job twice if I didn't have to. So if your worried you've got a knock-off Exedy, see if you can get your money back and consider something like an ACT Street/Strip. The clutch pedal will only be a little stiffer than stock, but it's rated for 400 hp.
Either way you go, I also recommend a new clutch fork. They have been known to fail from fatique, especially with up-graded (stiffer) pressure plates.
