clutch interlock safety switch

Looking for ideas here- To start the car you need the clutch pedal fully depressed. it pushes in a plunger type switch enabling you to start the car. On my 87 n\a, when I fully depress the clutch pedal, it will not crank the starter, as if you werent even depressing the pedal. I got under the dash and looked, the pedal is not depressing the switch all the way, but it appears the pedal has no adjustment. If I push the switch in by hand (car in neutral) I can crank the starter. The pedal only needs to push the switch another inch. So, ideas? is the switch worn? or is the pedal or the switch out of alignment? also, could I disable this? I am smart enough not to start my vehicle in gear.
Thanks,
Chris

You're right, there is no adjustment for how far down the pedal can go. It should just about reach the bump stop attached to the firewall. Maybe your switch has dirty contacts and is not working unless completely pressed in. The good news is you can bypass the switch easily. Just unplug it and jump the harness-side plug with a short piece of wire and some spade connectors. Use a decently large gauge wire since power to the starter solenoid will be passing through this connection. Here's an image of the clutch switch in my car. It's disabled, but left in place.

Thank you, I may try removing the switch and cleaning it, if thats the issue, or also rig something up on the pedal so it pushes the switch in all the way, but that might not be the best idea because its not working right in the first place. Disabling the switch seems like my best option now. Onto bigger problems with the car now!

Women are generally more flexible than men. Should be easy to reach the switch with an appropriately sized wrench. Or just jump the damn thing. '86 and lower RX-7s didn't even have them.
