Charging problem

Hey yall, I've just got my first rx7 it's a 1987 GXL (non turbo) I guess you probably know that.lol. I think I'm having problems with the charging system. My volt Guage is completely dead but with a multi meter the battery's got 12.2or so. With it running I've only got 12.6 and if I flip the lights on it's back down to 12.2 if I rev it up it might hit 12.5 with the lights still on. Any Help you guys have is apreciated. Thanks Roger

Have the alternator tested. Your preliminary tests pretty much point to a bad voltage regulator, but auto parts stores can often go more in depth. Confirm it's dead, then replace the alternator.

Test Your battery! get your ALternator Tested aswell.. make sure that YOur Ground Cables are On correctly / without Corrosion.

if you have any Negative Ohm Resistance, your battery will not charge correctly....
