Car revs to 3k and idles at 3k S4 rx7 13bt

Only happened once so far, but car was running at 3k rpm for 30 sec~ Idles at 3k i turned it off turned it back on back to 3k, gave it a really good rev and it popped down to 900 again. Anybody experienced this issue? Car is a standard 13bt 4 port s4 1986 rx7.

sounds like normal start up when you have the cold start system intact on the car.

If the idle sticks at 3k then your throttle plates are sticking if you have to get on the throttle to lower the rpm to 900.

Hmm alright. I'll did give it a bit of a rev revved below 3k and went back up so wouldn't suspect throttle

AFM door could be sticking open. Throttle cable too tight. Cruise control cable too tight. Throttle plates could still be obstructed. Vacuum leak. Air bypass relay could be stuck closed (Brown/Yellow wire to the relay should not have a ground signal after the first 17 seconds on a cold start. And or pin 1C's Red/Yellow wire should not have a ground signal after 17 seconds on a cold start as well). Could also be the timing is off. BAC could be stuck open or receiving an improper signal (unplugging it would tell you one way or the other).

When the car is idling at 3k for at least 17 seconds on a cold start press upwards on the front throttle linkage and see if this lowers the idle speed or not.

cheers satch. Will look into it. ill keep those tips in mind for the next time it does it. It was a warm start too, so eliminate the cold start option. Its ran mint for weeks before this happened and ran mint the next few days. So im a bit stuck for options lol... Ill just pray it doesnt happen again.. I have no idea how to emulate it

It honestly sounds like the cold start system got stuck on. That would explain why after you shut it off and revved it, it went back down to 900
