NH Cant keep my 85 rx7 running

Hi everyone, I need some help with my 85 rx7. When I got the car the carb was in need of a rebuild. It would run if I dumped some gas into the carb but then it would stall after all that gas was used. The fuel pump was okay and I found out that the carb was just so dirty that the fuel could not get in. Now I have had the carb rebuilt and I put it back on. But the car still will not stay running? I dont need to dump gas in anymore like I had to before but it still only runs in short bursts. my fuel pump is new and I hear it running I also have pulled the fuel line off and seen fuel pump out when I trun the key on. I am missing some vacuum lines, I think the people before me have taken a bunch of them out. Could that be what my problem is? I still have some vacuume lines on the carb but I dont know what ones need to be there. Can any of you guys help me out?
Thank you
Brenden

NH getting better still no idle

After playing around with the choke I found out that my car will idle when its cold on full choke but if I let the choke open it will stall. However it seems like once the engine is warm it will not idle no matter what I do with the choke. If I pump the gas and keep it abobe 3000 rpm it will run smooth as ever. Any ideas?

First guess would be that you need to tune the idle speed and idle fuel mixture. Head over to www.sterlingmetalworks.com and start reading. Pay special attention to the section "Tuning the Nikki Carb".

Also, to help in dealing with all of the missing vacuum lines (do you have emissions testing requirements in your state?), go to the 1st gen tech section, and in the first few pages there should be a thread on how to strip a Nikki, or Naked Nikki, or something along those lines. This will help you determine what all is absolutely necessary in order to make the carb work.

Good luck!

I can idle

Thanks for the help. I pluged off some vaccum lines that did not go anywhere and set my idle a bit faster and now it will idle. But if I give it gas too fast it will stall or start to stall if I let off at that point it will normaly catch itself and go back to idle.

Go through those tuning steps on Sterling's site. It should help.
