I have an rx-7 1989 and it has an ceased motor ... well what i was wondering was if i could swap the block out with an 1985 rx7 block 12a .. im working on getting my car on the road soon so i can build a new motor to slam up in it when it gets done... so to another question i have ..... is there a masazine i can order parts to parts to order and customly build the motor?

welcome to the board.

can you?
yes, but it's not worth the time or effort. just wait to "slam up" the 13B in it after it's built. converting a 12A for use in a Gen II only to go back to a 13B is pointless.

magazine to order engine parts from?
not that i'm aware of, but there are several sites that can facilitate you with engine parts (Mazdatrix, Pineapple, Atkins, etc.)

You can order parts from the internet. Mazdatrix, Racing Beat... etc

Is English not your first language? Because your posts are hard to understand.

Also, PLEASE take town the hardbody avatar. Its mostly all men here.

Well what i was ganna do is swap it for now to build a 20a or 23a motor while i drive with the 12a motor in the car... i would like to build an 4 rotor rotary motor to put in my rx7 ... so ill swap the 13b block to the 12a block and put the 13b heads and exsaust onto the 12a until i can save money to build lol

stop! stop! stop!

okay, this is the New Member section and there is some coddling expected to help you transition into the larger frame of the board. i get that. however, i have to be blunt with you right now. you're not building a 4 rotor anything for any car. period.

first issue is: what do you actually HAVE and what are you trying to do? you stated you have an '89 and then you stated you're buying a car on Saturday and don't know anything about it. clarify this.

to get back to your original hypothetical question. again, there is no point to swapping a 12A into a Gen II if you only plan to go back to a 13B. as for using the 13B stuff on the 12A, the EXHAUST can be made to physically bolt to the block, but since the 13B is 20 mm longer, the exhausts will not match perfectly because the ports themselves will be off-center.

also, pay a little closer attention to your proofreading. i almost went into an explanation that rotaries don't have "heads".

Sound like a lot a lot of work going in the wrong direction. Why not just rebuild the 13b rather then swap? Do you already have a 12a to install or are you having to buy that too?

I have my car i just got it for 400$ .... so yes im trying to fix it and i have to buy the motor to swap it but it runs and it comes complete for 600$ with tranny if he still has it by the time i get money. Lol so i figured i could put that motor in it until i get a new motor to rebuild ... unless u have a quicker way i can fix my car fast....? Does anyone have idea's?...

You're going to spend more money and time putting a 12A drivetrain in an S5 than you would rebuilding the engine in it or sourcing a new motor. Period. These are not hondas- you cannot just drop it in and expect it to A)fit and B)work.

a '79 ... the car in your NEW avatar.

putting another 12A in is no problem. the differences between '79 and '85 12A are both internal and ancillary, but nothing insurmountable. if you still have all of your emissions, they may take some finagling to work, but other than that, the newer engine will be good to go.

Your the guy trying to buy my extra motor, and at this point there is no deal.. I won't allow such a horrid mess. Your grammar and spelling are familiar.

An RX-7 for Winter? Do you know what you are talking about? I won't tarnish good parts on a car going to the junkyard. Get a better winter car, keep working, and come back when your not needing to make payments for a $600 Engine/Trans Carb to Pan, Fan to Tailshaft combo.

Its not your driving skill thats in question. It's the other people. Me personally, I would avoid RWD and no ABS in ice and snow. Does that mean I can't drive in it? Not at all. Its the guy changing lanes and fishtailing across the freeway that worries me. I would rather live, and keep my cars in one piece. Sure, if something is going to happen, it will, but I'd rather have some sort of safety net to better my odds. To each their own. I have personally owned many odd eclectic cars, and they all get abused and destroyed by incompetent owners. I just don't want to do it again. Seeing a 1988 Mitsubishi Starion that I completely restored in the junk yard was sad. Seeing that the new owner put on a MBC and never changed anything else, I wonder why it cracked #2 and #3 pistons. I'm tired of handing out parts to get destroyed. I would rather keep it.
