Can I fix a broken door handle or do I have to spend over $100 on a new one?

So it has happened to my 1987 FC n/a; the door handle was starting to slip and one day just lost all functionality. I read up on the problem and the solutions... There was a guy here on the forums who made a resin prototype but never posted later on it he made versions to sell. I also read that they are made of impure cast metal when stock and are prone to fractures. Is it possible to JB weld the door handle components?

Used door handles are fairly cheap. You would need to put your lock in,so the handle would open with the keys you are using.
I don't think JB Weld will work..and if it does, not for long.I wouldn't even waste my time with it.

I would imaging they are not too much at a junk yard, but I currently live 200+ miles away from any city that might have FC parts. I tried eBay but that was unsuccessful. Do you have any ideas as to where I can get a driver door handle? Also thanks for the advice, I'd rather get something done right the first time.

you can get enough posts to access the Sec gen parts section and put up a thread.
Guys on here are parting cars as I type..lol!
you need 10 posts to put up an ad..or is it 15?..(I'd be safe at 15)..
WTB section is 10.

EBay if you don't have enough posts and are in a hurry to get it

I found a couple on eBay for appx 50.00 USD. I'm okay with that price considering that driver side handles are very expensive. They bever seem to be the right color. I can probably wait it out and bid war in a month or two when somebody finaly has a metallic blue, or perhaps I can get spray paint and clear coat in a can. I think it may be doable because it's not like I'll be painting the whole car with a can. Or is this a bad idea?

I look forward to being able to browse the parts section...

I'd paint it. If you cant get an exact match maybe consider going black? esp. if your s4 has the black trim already

paint shops can make you any color too

Heck I have a couple of 86 cars if they are the same you could have the handles for shipping costs , but the snow is halfway up the windshield's and dammed if I will dig them out ( to old to dig ) if you haven't got one by the time the snow is gone middle of may maybe let me know and I will remove and send . You should be able to buy a small can of touch up paint the right color , ordinary spray paint isn;t worth a **** it will come off pretty easy although a can of good clear over the paint might help protect them .. good luck ,.. Gerald m.

you could also get a little hardener catalyst and mix with some body shop paint or most any paint ,spray that on and then you have something worth spending time on

I'll definitely keep this in mind! As far as I know all s4 and s5 door handles are the same. I really appreciate your offer and advice.

Thanks to Gerald M.
These are the FC3S door handles that I received. In the images there are two of them. One is a stock handle and the other has been modified with steel as opposed to the cast metal. The modified on is the handle with the red pain marks on it. There are a few things that could get worked on like an additional recoil spring on the left side of it but it's overall very strong and quite heavy. For now I think I'll use the cast one and play around with the modded on to get it a bit smoother. I'll be sure to get more pics up when the project is done. I hope you guys enjoy these pictures.
