MA A/C Electrical issue

As with any car when you buy it theres going to be some issues like the slave and master cylinders for the clutch i've already ordered and whatnot.

My issue came up last night at idle on a battery that is a little over a year old, a brand new alternator, and as far as the A/C itself I'd have to refer to TriXx, but it is operational and blows air cold enuf to fog coming out of the vents.

In the time it took me to open the hood to show off a little and for me to get back into my car, somehow the voltage dropped to under 10v, with just running lights and the stereo powered but not cranking out the tunes. application of the brakes naturally dropped the voltage further due to lighting. once the engine was reved the voltage increased(obviously not the alternator thats the problem), and decreased once again only after the application of the brakes. Once i realized the blower fan for the A/C was on i turned it off and saw a SIGNIFICANT gain in voltage jumping to about 13v on the guage. then i noticed that the ac was on and turned it off, and turned the fan on, no voltage decrease, then i activated the A/C once again at a cruise to keep the voltage up. The problem returned but only once there was a draw from the brake lights. and every application of the brakes brought a further drop in voltage until i got on the throttle again.

This morning I went to AutoZone and bought a battery for my 98 K1500 truck and it managed to fit(by half of a smurf's asshair at that) and with the A/C off I still see a Drop in voltage with no lights on just by applying the brakes. this battery should be more than enuf to run the car with 850CCA and a reserve of 160. So I am looking for suggestions on testing to resolve this. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm not a certified mechanic, but i've done enough work to know what you would be talking about and if I don't i know what questions to ask to make sure we'd be on the same page. I've had a hard-on for the 13b since i was 13 at that so there won't be much that i wouldn't understand.

Thanks a bunch
SrX

Sounds like it could be a ground problem. Check FAQ section or do a search for user Aaron Cake and find a link to his site which explains how to clean and repair FC stock grounds.

Well today i was cruising on surface roads with the fan on(as a new battery seemed to help a shitload) and all of a sudden smoke came out of my dashboard. and was definitely plastic of some sort melting. and it immediately stopped once i turned the fan off. The most obvious answer is theres a short. No doubt about that. but if its fan related why would it be coming out of my dash by the guages??? does the wiring for the center console travel under it? and what kind of draw on the system would cause that, just by using the fan????

HELP!!!

P.S. I'm not talking about the thermostatic fan that cools the engine either, in case you got confused.
