Buying and selling rx7

How much is a modified rx7 worth? Is it a smart thing to buy a modifed car or should I build it from scratch. Some people say you never know what your buying when the car is modified. Some people know what they are doing and others don't.

Well all of your post is true.

Some people can modify a car and some can not. Often times modifying a car will actually drop the value of the car instead of increasing its value, but you will get guys that spent $10K on a $5K car and think that the car should be worth $15K... it is not.

So as far as what one is worth, depends on the car (miles and condition), what was modified, and who did it.

but most importantly... how much YOU feel it is worth when buying it, within reason of course. the intrinsic value of a car is really subjective. KBB doesn't know everything.

You really need to get a feel for the person selling the modded car. Question them, see how much they know. If they know a lot i would trust the car will be okay. If they know nothing i would steer away.

Have them show you EVERYTHING so you arn't surprised when something breaks and you have to re-learn something just to fix it.

(My car was modified when I bought it and I spent a year de-wiring it)

so true when buying modded cars. figure out the mods, and what things could go wrong with the mods during installation and after (like added maintenance)

Generally modding adds nothing. Everyone agrees on that I think. There is one exception - if the car is prepped for a particular racing class - autocross for example, and the car has race results to back it up, it can fetch more.

However the number of cars and buyers that fall into that category is very small.

thats a touchy subject for everyone in our world,
Some people can modify a car and some can not.
one major way you can tell if someone is good at moding a car is if they are very organized. ask for receipts and ask where work was performed if they dont have receipts. then call on it. most places that have tuned a car or done any extensive work will remember, that what happens when people have a passion for something. you have to be your own judge though because only you know your standards... good luck.
