Buying my first RX7. Importing from the US?

Hello
I have been posting a bit in the newbie section, and i think this is a good place for me to continue to ask all the stupid questions.

I am a long time Mazda enthusiast, and have been playing with the KL V6 engines since i got my driving licence. A recent workshop fire put an end to my MX6 project, and also took my vintage Celica MK1 with it. A couple insurance company payouts later, and its time for me to take the big-boy trousers on, and get a RX7.

So, i want a RX7. The only problem is that finding the "right" one in Europe is a lot of trouble. They did not become popular, and the sales was incredible low. So i am thinking about importing one from the US.

My budget is 23.000 USD.

And for that, i hope to find a stock, very nice condition 1994 or 1995 car with the double airbags, that runns great and looks even better. Black (or white) are my prefered colors, and the Touring interior package. I know there was made about 300 of those.

Is this a realistic wish?

Also, since i am living in Norway, i will pretty much have to buy the car "unseen". Is there any trustworthy shops, or people that i can pay to do an inspection of the car, so that im not buyng some crap that wont even run

Im from Europe (Norway) so i will have to get it shipped here by boat. Also, when buying a car that involves so much "work", i would spend some extra to get it just right.

Im really just interested in the 94/95 LHD versions, from either US or Europe (im searching here as well but they are very rare). They would also have to be pretty much stock, so that excludes most cars with any engine or exterior mods. Regulations here does not allow engine mods.

After a bit of reaserch, it seems the black exterior never came with black interior. So then i am stuck trying to find a White clean and more or less OEM car, 1994/1995, with the black interior

Is that realistic within the $23,000 budget?

And are there people/shops who can help me check out potential cars so i dont buy something bad?

Are you looking to buy from an importer or plan to travel to the US and purchase a car and have it shipped while you fly home?

this would not happen unless you search about 6 month ago which every one was trying to sell them as quick as possible. they were in the range of $9k to $15k all original and easier to find but now you rarely see them original with low mile that has given the car a real value. if you search and get to find one it will have so much miles(it will means housings are used or beat on by this long term of use and it won't last you very long even with a full rebuilt kit) plus they try to rip off people by selling it in a ridiculous price of $20k with over 130k miles(meaning you will have to spend more money and time for the car to get it run like a baby). just think about it a full rebuilt kit is about $1200-$1400 depending were you get it and a new original engine for the fd3s is $1200-$1500 with 50k miles and depending on the area that they have to deliver is about $500-$2000 unless you lived next to the place that gets the engine already imported from japan. so think how is all this going to affect your budget and how much would it be to import a vehicles.

Im thinking i will buy it myself in the US, either from a rotary specialist acting as a middle-man, or directly from a private seller. In the later case i would probably fly to the US and do the final transactions once the deal is 100% secure.

My plan would then be to take it to a specialist in the US, and get the engine overhauled, before shipping it to Norway. The freight company im thinking about using will do the pickup and all the paperwork related to the export and import. The reason i want a stock engine is because i would have to go through some emission testing when it get here, adn getting the job done in the US will save me some money

I also get a good excuse for a vacation in the US

So you would suggest me to buy a car at the end of the summer if i want it as cheap as possible?

And also not try to get a low mileage, but instead get a cheap car with good interior, and do an engine swap or overhaul?

ok (what im getting at is if you could buy a time machine to go 6 moth in to the past you would of have the best chance possible to get what you wanted no matter the engine conditions, this is been sarcastic because im not saying to wait in till summer) as i said before at this time of year everything is raising up and not everyone is selling there 1993-up rx7 fd3s even if you get a guru master of the rotary those cars are expensive unless you want a mazda r100 or mazda rx2 completely original with less than 40k miles for less than $20K but that is out this subject.
