Intermittent mis fire/ loss of power in my FD

Hello. As the title says my FD is misfiring intermittently under load. She pulls really strong sometimes right up to 9000rpm. Other times she loses power completely. I have done a compression test and got back 7,7,7 on the rear and 4,0,0 on the front.

Basically I know I'm going to have to do a rebuild on it but trying to gauge what to expect when I pull it apart. Why would it be intermittant? It's almost if the apex seal is sticking but loosening up and then sticking again. Is this something that can happen? The car had been sat for a while before I took ownership.

When I picked it up the previous owner had flooded it quite well. I managed to re start after removing the plugs and cranking the engine to purge the fuel vapors from the housing.

So the question is are these symptoms a sure sign of apex seal failiure with possible need to replace the front rotor/housing or may I have dodged the bullet?

expect to shell out for a full rebuild kit.
the "good housing" showing 7's can be reused but you can bet that the other one will be not usable.
Then you have the irons to worry about on that part of the engine(rear) if they got damaged.

Overall you are just better to get it apart, inspect everything THEN take it from there,
There is no sense buying **** you do not need!

That confirms my suspicions really. But what puzzles me is why when driving it I have power but then don't, then all of a sudden I do again? I've been looking around and have found irons pretty cheap it's the housings that are expensive.

Priorities now are to get all my tools sorted ready to pull the engine on the next nice sunny day (probably will be August knowing the UK).

Thanks
Alan
